Patient Care Technician  

Patient Care Technician Program----$1525 plus $125 for certification exam 

Classroom classes in Tupelo.   *** First, a CNA class must be completed in the last 5 years or an current CNA license 

The Patient Care Technician Program provides the student with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide personal care to patients, perform an electrocardiogram, phlebotomy, and urinalysis. The course also covers emergency care, patient assessment, wound care, OB care, pediatric care, surgical care, mental health, and hospice. The program consists of Medical Terminology, and Patient Care Tech. After CNA graduation, the student has a three-week online course for Medical Terminology. The student will be completing the quizzes and exams at their convenience on any internet device by the deadline. The PCT portion includes 4 weeks online course then students are in the classroom from 1p to 5p on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays in the last 2 weeks. 


REQUIREMENTS---

  • Certificate of Completion of a CNA program in the last 5 years or current CNA license 
  • If you have been currently licensed as CNA more than 5 years, you may be required to attend and pass a 2 day skill program
  • Must be a resident of Mississippi
  • Completed college application in the school office or on our website. You will receive an email confirmation. 
  • Copy of photo ID as proof you are least 18 years of age.
  • Copy of your high school transcript, diploma, GED, or signed attestation as proof of completion.
  • Must be physically able to perform the employment skills of the program. Only if pre-existing conditions restrict and/or limit your abilities, a written statement from a physician stating limitations is required. The Director will inform the student if attending the program will not lead to employment due to limitations.
  • Interview with Director-considerations are ability to benefit, reason student wants to enter the program of choice, understanding the requirements of employment in the program of choice, ability to pass the courses, ability to pay fees.
  • Program fees paid in full at the end of each section. 

Payments are $390 down and $140 a week during 9 week program or $390 down and $280 biweekly (4 payments) during 9 week program

Course Objectives---

ü  Ability to perform blood and specimen draws then processing them.

ü  Ability to perform electrocardiogram

ü  Assist or perform patient assessments

ü  Knowledge of emergency care

ü  Knowledge of care for the surgical patient

ü  Knowledge of wound care, pressure ulcers, rehabilitative and restorative care

ü  Knowledge of special care concerns for pre and post birth of mother and child

ü  Knowledge of care of the older adult and end of life care

ü  Knowledge of patients with mental health needs and chronic conditions


Patient Care Technician---Medical Terminology and PCT Portion


Medical Terminology is a three week online course. You will be completing the quizzes and exams at your convenience on any internet device by the deadline given. The PCT portion is four weeks online courses. During the last 2 weeks online courses, you also will be in the classroom on Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

Scrubs (Scrubs Elite and Scrubs & Company give 25% for Medical2 Career College students----wear to classroom & clinicals)

Delivery Model------Intro to Medical Terminology is an online course for 3 weeks, Distance 45 hours. Last, is PCT course which is Residential 24 hours and Distance 63 hours.

Healthcare occupations are projected to add more jobs than any of the other occupational groups.” The U.S. Department of Labor projects the growth for Patient Care Technician jobs to increase 11% by 2026.

 

Average Salary--- PCTs earned an average salary of $26,590 in 2016, and employment of PCTs is expected to grow 11 percent through 2026.

 

Certification and Job Placement ---Certified Nurse Assistants must graduate and pass the CNA state exam to become eligible for employment in a long term care facility. To become PCT certified, the graduate must pass a national exam. The graduate may also take the phlebotomy national certification exam. Medical2 Career College will be working with employers to place as many graduates as possible. Potential employers are nursing homes, hospitals, or home health agencies.
